The White House has urged Iran to reach a diplomatic agreement with the United States, warning that failure to do so could lead to military consequences as tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme continue to rise.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said diplomacy remains Washington’s preferred option, but stressed that Iran would be “very wise” to accept a deal. She acknowledged, however, that negotiations remain difficult, with deep disagreements still unresolved.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump hinted that military strikes remain an option if talks collapse, reinforcing his stance through public statements and social media posts.
Indirect discussions between the United States and Iran are ongoing, with mediation efforts reportedly supported by Oman in Geneva. Iranian officials say they are drafting a framework for future negotiations, while US officials maintain that significant gaps persist between the two sides.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that US military forces have strengthened their presence in the Middle East to provide operational options should diplomacy fail. Officials insist no final decision on military action has been taken.
International reactions have followed the rising tensions. Russia has called for restraint, warning that further escalation could destabilise the wider region.
Iranian authorities say they do not seek war but have warned that any military strike would provoke serious consequences, raising fears of broader instability if the standoff deepens.
