Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of Rear Admiral Musa Bello Katagum, the Chief of Operations of the Nigerian Navy, who passed away in Egypt after a brief illness.
According to official sources, the senior naval officer died in a hospital in Egypt, where he had travelled to receive medical treatment. His death was formally confirmed by the Nigerian Navy, which described him as a dedicated and highly professional officer whose service greatly strengthened the nation’s maritime security.
Rear Admiral Katagum served as Chief of Operations at the Naval Headquarters, where he was responsible for planning and coordinating major naval missions across the country’s waterways. Throughout his career, he held several strategic positions within the Navy, contributing significantly to operations against piracy, oil theft, and other maritime crimes.
The Navy noted that the late officer was widely respected for his discipline, leadership, and commitment to national service. He was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Condolences have continued to pour in from senior military officials, government representatives, and colleagues, who described his death as a major loss to Nigeria’s defence and security architecture.
