Sokoto Government Allocates ₦1 Billion for Ramadan Feeding, Targets 34,000 Meals Daily.

The government of Sokoto State has approved a ₦1 billion feeding programme for the 2026 Ramadan season, aiming to distribute 34,000 meals daily to vulnerable residents across the state.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu inaugurated the programme, describing it as a key social intervention to ease the burden on fasting Muslims while promoting compassion, unity and community support during the holy month.

Under the initiative, the number of feeding centres has been increased from 155 to 170 centres, each expected to serve around 200 beneficiaries at a time. The governor assured that the meals would be hygienic, high quality, and properly packaged, with additional staff engaged to ensure smooth operations throughout Ramadan.

Governor Aliyu noted that the programme forms part of broader social welfare efforts by his administration, including the rehabilitation of mosques and schools, as well as monthly allowances to Jumu’ah mosques across the state.

He also called on religious organisations, philanthropists, and the public to support the initiative, stressing the importance of ensuring that no resident goes hungry during the fasting period.

The programme, which has been in operation for nearly 19 years, continues to provide relief to thousands of residents, reflecting the state government’s long-standing commitment to poverty alleviation and community welfare.
