Former Senator Shehu Sani has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-corruption agencies to investigate the eight-year administration of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai (2015–2023), citing financial mismanagement, abuse of office, and hardship for citizens under his leadership.
Sani made the appeal during a press conference in Kaduna, stressing that the EFCC should act on reports submitted by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to ensure accountability and proper handling of public funds.
The former senator also criticized El-Rufai for policies he claimed led to insecurity, demolitions, human rights violations, and detention of journalists and activists.
Additionally, he urged security agencies to investigate unresolved cases such as the 2019 disappearance of activist Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata).
Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has similarly called on the EFCC and the Department of State Services (DSS) to probe El-Rufai’s handling of corruption and security matters during his tenure.
The call comes shortly after El-Rufai made comments in a media interview criticizing the current government, which Sani described as politically inconsistent, given El-Rufai’s previous support for President Bola Tinubu in 2023.
El-Rufai, however, has denied any wrongdoing, stating that his administration focused on government reforms and fiscal discipline.
These developments highlight the ongoing debates in Nigeria about governance, accountability, and the role of anti-corruption agencies in investigating public officials after they leave office.
