Kenyan Athlete Wins 2026 Lagos City Marathon

Kenyan long-distance runner Ezra Kipchumba Kering has won the 2026 edition of the Lagos City Marathon, after completing the 42.195-kilometre race in 2 hours, 11 minutes and 55 seconds.

The international marathon, held on Saturday in Lagos, featured elite runners from Africa and other parts of the world. Kering’s performance stood out as he crossed the finish line ahead of the field, demonstrating strong pace and endurance throughout the race.

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Meseret Dinke emerged winner, finishing with a time of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 36 seconds, continuing the strong showing of East African athletes at the event.

Nigeria also recorded notable performances, with Boyi Nyango finishing as the first Nigerian male runner in a time of 2:25:32, while Deborah Badung led the local women, completing the marathon in 2:55:46.

Organisers announced prize money of 50,000 dollars for winners in both the men’s and women’s elite categories, alongside special cash rewards for top-performing Nigerian athletes.

The Lagos City Marathon remains one of Africa’s leading road races, attracting international attention and reinforcing Lagos’ growing profile as a major destination for global sporting events.
