From Exile to Power: Tarique Rahman’s Return Ushers New Era in Bangladesh Politics.

Tarique Rahman, returning from 17 years in exile in London, has led the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to a landslide victory in the country’s parliamentary elections.

The BNP secured a commanding majority in the 299-seat parliament, winning well over the 151 seats required to form government. This election is the first national vote since the 2024 student-led uprising, which toppled long-serving Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and installed a transitional government under Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.

Following the election, Rahman called for national unity and political cooperation, urging all parties to work together to strengthen democracy and promote national development.

International reactions were swift, with world leaders congratulating Rahman and expressing hope for continued stability and progress in Bangladesh and the South Asian region.
