Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has rejected claims by ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai that the late activist Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, was not a critic of his administration.
El-Rufai had recently stated that Dadiyata was more vocal in criticising the former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, rather than the Kaduna State Government during his tenure. However, Shehu Sani dismissed this assertion, describing it as inaccurate and misleading.
According to Sani, Dadiyata was widely known for his strong and consistent criticism of the policies and leadership style of the Kaduna State Government under El-Rufai, particularly through social media commentaries.
He stressed that Dadiyata’s public posts and engagements clearly showed that his activism was largely directed at the Kaduna government, countering attempts to shift the narrative years after his disappearance.
Dadiyata’s case has continued to attract national attention since his abduction from his residence in Kaduna on August 2, 2019, by unknown persons. His whereabouts remain unknown, a situation that has drawn criticism from civil rights groups and intensified public scrutiny of security agencies and the government in power at the time.
A report by Daily Trust noted that the renewed disagreement between political figures has once again brought the unresolved disappearance of the activist to the forefront of public discourse in Nigeria.
