Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that any future agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme must include the complete dismantling of the programme, not just a temporary halt to uranium enrichment.
Netanyahu insisted that Iran must remove all enriched uranium from its territory and disable the facilities used for enrichment if a meaningful and credible deal is to be reached that guarantees regional security.
His remarks come as the United States and Iran prepare for a second round of indirect nuclear talks in Geneva, with mediation from international partners.
Iran, however, has reiterated that while it is open to negotiations, it will not completely abandon uranium enrichment, maintaining that its nuclear activities are strictly for peaceful purposes.
Analysts say the sharp differences between Israel, the United States and Iran highlight the difficulty of reaching a comprehensive agreement, despite hopes that renewed diplomacy could reduce tensions and avert further conflict in the Middle East.
