U.S Troops Arrive in Maiduguri to Support Nigerian Counter-Insurgency Efforts.

United States military aircraft have begun arriving in Maiduguri, signaling the start of a U.S. troop deployment to support Nigerian forces in their fight against extremist groups in the northeast.

Heavy transport planes, including C‑17 cargo aircraft, have landed at Maiduguri Airbase carrying equipment, ammunition, and other logistical supplies. Reports indicate additional landings at Kaduna International Airport to facilitate troop movements.

Approximately 200 U.S. military personnel are expected to join Nigerian forces in the coming weeks. The deployment is focused on training, advisory, and technical support roles, with U.S. troops emphasizing that they will not conduct combat operations. Nigerian authorities remain in full operational control.

The deployment is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen Nigeria’s response to the insurgency led by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which have caused decades of instability in the region. U.S. officials said the assistance includes intelligence sharing, logistics support, and tactical guidance to enhance Nigerian security capabilities.

The move also comes amid growing international cooperation against extremist violence, highlighting the U.S. commitment to regional stability while respecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.
