Police Rescue Three Abducted Victims in Niger, Arrest Suspect After Gun Battle.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Niger State have rescued three kidnapped persons and arrested a suspected kidnapper following a gun duel with armed criminals.

The victims were abducted on February 5, 2026, when gunmen attacked Aworo Village via Leaba Zugurma in Mashegu Local Government Area and forced them into a nearby forest, police said.

Acting on intelligence, officers from the Ibbi Division, supported by local vigilantes, tracked the kidnappers to their forest hideout. A gun battle ensued in the early hours of February 8, during which the suspects fled under pressure, enabling the police to rescue the three victims unharmed.

In a separate operation, police arrested a suspected armed robber and kidnapper, identified as Umaru Beto, in the New Bussa axis. The arrest followed an attack in Dogon-Daji Village, where the suspect and accomplices reportedly assaulted a resident. A locally made revolver was recovered from the suspect, while two other gang members escaped and are currently being pursued.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured residents that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks operating across the area.
