Oman Confirms Ramadan 2026 Start Date Using Astronomical Calculations

Authorities in Oman have officially announced that Ramadan 1447 AH will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, based on astronomical calculations.

According to the announcement, the crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan will not be visible on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, which corresponds to the 29th day of Sha’ban. Astronomical data indicate that the moon will set before sunset across all parts of the country, making sighting impossible.

As a result, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will complete the month of Sha’ban, and fasting will commence nationwide on Thursday.

Oman is among the first countries in the Gulf region to confirm the start of Ramadan for 2026 ahead of time, relying on precise astronomical studies rather than waiting for traditional moon sighting. The early announcement is expected to help residents, institutions, and businesses plan effectively for the holy month.

The development was reported by Khaleej Times, highlighting Oman’s continued use of scientific calculations in determining Islamic calendar dates.
