Obama Condemns Racist “Monkey” Video Shared by Trump.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama has condemned a controversial video shared on Donald Trump’s social media account that depicted him and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys, calling the political climate “deeply troubling.”

Speaking on a podcast with commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama criticized the erosion of decorum and civility in American politics, describing the current state of social media and political discourse as a “clown show.” He did not directly name Trump but expressed concern over repeated offensive behavior and the normalization of racist imagery.

The video, posted on Truth Social on February 5, included baseless claims about the 2020 presidential election. It was deleted after widespread backlash. Near the end of the clip, the Obamas’ faces were briefly superimposed on monkeys, drawing sharp criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans.

Obama warned that such incidents could harm the Republican Party ahead of upcoming elections, emphasizing that the ultimate accountability lies with the American electorate.

On related issues, he also criticized federal immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota, including two fatal shootings during recent raids, calling the conduct “deeply concerning and dangerous” and likening it to authoritarian practices. He praised community-led peaceful protests as a positive form of civic engagement.

The immigration raids triggered nationwide protests and contributed to a partial government shutdown over Department of Homeland Security funding disputes.
