The 2026 Argungu Fishing and Cultural Festival concluded in grand style, with a young man, Abubakar Usman, winning the fishing competition after catching a 59-kilogram fish. The champion received two Toyota cars and ₦1,000,000 in cash.
The runner-up, Abdullahi Garba, caught a 40-kilogram fish and was awarded one Toyota car and ₦1,000,000. Two third-place winners, each catching a 33-kilogram fish, received ₦1,000,000 and motorcycles.
The Argungu Festival, first held in 1934, is one of Nigeria’s oldest cultural celebrations, attracting participants from across the country and abroad.
President Bola Tinubu attended the event, describing the festival as a symbol of unity, peace, and national progress. The festival featured fishing competitions, wrestling, traditional dances, music, and exhibitions of local crafts, boosting tourism and economic growth in Kebbi State.
