The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rimi Local Government Area, CSP Muhammad Sani Kabir, was killed during a security operation against suspected cattle rustlers in Katsina State, Nigeria.
The incident occurred after local leaders in the Magajen Gobir area reported rustlers to the authorities late at night. Security personnel, supported by community members, engaged the suspects and recovered some stolen cattle.
During a subsequent confrontation, the DPO’s rifle reportedly malfunctioned, and he was shot and killed by the bandit leader, known as Maigemu. In the clash, three attackers were killed by security forces and community members. Additionally, three security personnel were injured and are receiving treatment at Katsina Teaching Hospital, while some civilians were also caught in the crossfire.
The Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs expressed sorrow over the DPO’s death, commended the bravery of the officers and community members, and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling insecurity in the state.
