INEC Schedules February 20, 2027 for Presidential Election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable for the 2027 General Elections, announcing that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, stating that the commission is fully prepared to conduct the elections in a peaceful and credible manner.

He explained:

> “Under the **Nigeria Constitution of 1999 (as amended), the tenure of the President, Vice President, Governors, and Deputy Governors of the states of the Federation, except certain states, will expire on May 28, 2027.”

He also noted that membership of the National and State Assemblies will end on June 8, 2027. According to Sections 76(2), 116(2), 132(2), and 178(2) of the Constitution, elections for these offices shall be held not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the current officeholders’ terms.

INEC emphasized that the elections will be conducted in accordance with the law, ensuring fairness and transparency.
