Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara Dissolves Executive Council, Appoints New Chief Press Secretary.
The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties.
The announcement was made on Thursday, February 12, in a special government statement issued in Port Harcourt. In the same statement, Governor Fubara appointed Onwuka Nzeshi as the new Chief Press Secretary, replacing Nelson Chukwudi, who was relieved of his duties. No reason was given for Chukwudi’s removal.
Governor Fubara directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over their responsibilities immediately to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
The statement from the Governor’s office read:
> “His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.
His Excellency has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.
His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours.”
Following the dissolution, Governor Fubara is expected to submit a new list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, for screening and confirmation.
