Kogi Government Orders Temporary Closure of Markets, Motor Parks Amid Security Operations

The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks across parts of the state’s western senatorial district as security agencies intensify coordinated operations against criminal elements.

The directive was disclosed on Sunday in Lokoja by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, during a media briefing.

Fanwo said the decision was aimed at flushing out terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups operating in affected communities, adding that the temporary shutdown would disrupt their logistics and support networks.

According to him, the measure is designed to restrict the movement of consumables, deny criminal elements and their informants access to food supplies, and cut off other forms of logistical support during the ongoing security exercise.

“The directive affects selected communities across seven local government areas of the state,” Fanwo said. “It is in support of ongoing clearance operations being carried out in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and the heads of security agencies in Kogi State.”

He listed the affected local government areas as Lokoja, Kogi, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa Muro, Yagba West and Yagba East, all within the western district of the state.

The commissioner noted that the affected markets and motor parks would remain closed for the duration of the operations, stressing that the action was strictly temporary and would be lifted immediately after the successful conclusion of the security exercise.

Fanwo also recalled that the state government had, on February 4, 2026, ordered the closure of all primary and secondary schools across the state as part of precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property amid prevailing security concerns.
